What is PD CEN/TS 17394‑4 about?
PD CEN/TS 17394‑4 is the fourth part of a multi-part series of documents which specifies a method applicable to all other components like labels, badges, sequins, rhinestones, rivets, eyelets and non-metal press fasteners which are too small to be gripped in test equipment jaws or their integrity is disrupted by gripping.
PD CEN/TS 17394‑4 specifies an extremely aggressive wash method which is used to assess if the components remain attached as detachment of these components could lead accidents in children and thus, assess the security of attachment of components except buttons and metal mechanically applied press fasteners.
Note 1: Under PD CEN/TS 17394‑4 eyelets and rivets cannot be tested.
Note 2: Childcare articles, footwear, toys (except disguise costumes which are also toys) and other articles sold with clothing are not covered under PD CEN/TS 17394-4.
Note 3: Disguise costumes including carnival costumes are examples of clothing which are also toys and fall within the scope of the Toy Safety Directive.
