What is BS EN 12814-2 about?
BS EN 12814-2 is one of the parts of a multi-series standard that specifies the dimensions, the method of sampling, the preparation of the test specimens and the conditions for performing the tensile test in order to determine the short-term tensile welding factor.
The Tensile test specified in BS EN 12814-2 is applicable to welded semi-finished products made from thermoplastic materials filled or unfilled, but not reinforced, irrespective of the welding process used.
A tensile test can be used in conjunction with other tests to assess the performance of welded assemblies, made from thermoplastic materials.
Who is BS EN 12814-2 for?
BS EN 12814-2 on testing of welded joints of thermoplastics is applicable to:
- Automobile industry
- Packaging industry
- Electronic Industry
- Toy Manufacturing
- Testing laboratories
Why should you use BS EN 12814-2?
Testing and visual inspection of thermoplastic welding are important to identify and ensure the quality of the welded joints. BS EN 12814-2 provides you with guidelines for the requirements for the tests made on welded thermoplastic products. The selection of the appropriate test methods is in accordance with the type and application of the welded product.
BS EN 12814-2 provides the dimensions and methods for sampling and preparing test specimens that must be adhered to by manufacturers to ensure that people receive safe and quality products.
BS EN 12814-2 aids in the evaluation of the performance of thermoplastic welded assemblies, as well as improves the quality of thermoplastic welded assemblies by establishing tensile test guidelines for welded joints.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 12814-2:2021 supersedes BS EN 12814-2:2000, which is withdrawn. BS EN 12814-2:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12814-2:2000. These include:
- The reference standards ISO 5893 and ISO 13953 have been changed to undated
- A new annexe (Annex A), describing the tensile test specimen geometry for overlap joints, has been added
