What is ISO 3861 about?
ISO 3861 specifies rubber hoses for sand and grit blasting. ISO 3861 also contains requirements for hose assemblies, when hoses are fitted with couplings.
ISO 3861 specifies the requirements for rubber hoses and hose assemblies for wet and dry sand and grit blasting, suitable for use up to a maximum working pressure of 0,63 MPa (6,3 bar) and over an operating temperature range of −25 °C to +70 °C.
Who is ISO 3861 for?
ISO 3861 on rubber hoses and hose assemblies for sand and grit blasting is useful for:
- Rubber and plastic hoses manufacturers and suppliers
- Entities dealing rubber, hose assembly and hoses
- Industrial hose manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 3861?
Sandblast hoses, also called abrasive-blasting hoses or blast hoses are applicable for moving highly abrasive materials such as sand, in abrasive-blasting applications.
ISO 3861 provides you with particular requirements for materials and construction, classifications, physical properties and additional information about marking and frequency of testing for rubber hoses and hose assemblies, which helps you in the production of reliable, efficient and defect-free hoses for sand and grit blasting.
What’s changed since the last update?

The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- MPa units have been added throughout the document
- Clause 2 has been updated
- Inside diameters of 20 mm and 40 mm have been deleted
- Clause 8 on frequency of testing, and Annexes A and B have been added
- Clause 9 on marking has been updated
