What is BS EN 50699 about?

BS EN 50699 is a European standard on recurrent tests of electrical equipment to identify manufacturing faults that could compromise the electrical safety of a product out in the field.

BS EN 50699 specifies the requirements of the test procedures to be applied for recurrent tests of current-using electrical equipment and appliances for the verification of the effectiveness of the protective measures and the permissible limits

BS EN 50699 assumes that the current-using equipment or appliances under consideration comply with its related product standard, has been introduced on the market and is in use.

Note1: Type tests, routine tests, sample tests, special tests and acceptance tests are usually defined in product standards. BS EN 50699 does not replace tests covered by product standards.

Note2: BS EN 50699 does not apply to the devices and equipment that are part of the fixed electrical installations defined in HD 60364 (all parts)

Note3:  For these devices, tests for initial and periodic verifications are covered by HD 60364-6.

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), photovoltaic inverters and power converters, e.g., AC/DC converters
  • Charging stations for electro-mobility
  • Stationary power supplies (generators)
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Power Drive
  • Devices for EX-zones or for mining applications in general
  • Products already covered by standards addressing similar topics

Who is BS EN 50699 for?

BS EN 50699 on recurrent tests of electrical equipment is useful for:

  • Electricians and technicians
  • Electrical equipment testers
  • Electrical industries
  • Testing laboratories/test providers for electrical equipment

Why should you use BS EN 50699?

Testing electrical and electronic products for electrical safety is intended to identify the potential risk of electrical shock to users.

BS EN 50699 provides you with requirements, test procedures to test the effectiveness of protective measures against electric hazards.

The test procedures provided by BS EN 50699 are simple and fast, well approved, and safe for the testing person and help to improve the efficacy of the electrical equipment.
