What is ISO/IEC 24711 about?
ISO/IEC 24711 provides a process for determining the ink cartridge yield for a given colour inkjet print system (i.e., integrated ink cartridges and ink cartridges without integrated printheads) using a standard consumer type test page suite.
ISO/IEC 24711 specifies evaluation of ink cartridge page yield for ink-containing cartridges for color inkjet print systems and printer component of any multifunctional device that has a digital input printing path including multi-function devices that contain inkjet printer components using a standard consumer type test page suite.
ISO/IEC 24711 specifies the test method that manufacturers, test laboratories etc. use to determine ink cartridge yield and determines declared yield values from the test results. It also specifies appropriate methods describing the yield of cartridges in documentation supplied to the consumer by the manufacturer.
ISO/IEC 24711 specifies measurement of ink cartridge page yield when printing on plain paper and only determines ink cartridge yield of drop-on-demand printing systems.
Note 1: Using ISO/IEC 24711 the quality, reliability of the printers cannot be determined.
Note 2: ISO/IEC 24711 is not for use with printers whose minimum printable size is equal to or greater than A3 or for printers designed or configured to print photos.
Who is ISO/IEC 24711 for?
ISO/IEC 24711 on method for the determination of ink cartridge yield is useful for:
- Manufacturers of color inkjet printers
- Manufacturers of multi-function print devices and printer components
- Manufacturers of drop-on-demand printing systems
- Ink cartridge manufacturers
Why should you use ISO/IEC 24711 ?
Cartridge yield is determined by an end-of-life judgement or signalled with either of two phenomena fade or automatic printing stop caused by an ink out detection function.
Test methods under ISO/IEC 24711 help you in determining ink cartridge yield of your printers, and if you are a manufacturer of color inkjet printers or multi- function devices this will enable you to enhance operational efficiency and performance of your products.
ISO/IEC 24711 helps in documentation between manufacturer and the consumer regarding appropriate method of describing the yield of cartridges.
ISO/IEC 24711 can determine the cost per page (CPP) of your printer, thereby providing you with cost-effective and optimal solutions for your product that can improve its marketability.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO/IEC 24711:2021 supersedes BS ISO/IEC 24711:2015 which is withdrawn. The main changes are:
- Correction of printer settings in clause 4.1 from duplex to simplex mode.
- Change in status of Annex E from informative to normative to have consistency with ISO/IEC 19798
- Addition of ISO/IEC 291421 to the bibliography
- Editorial changes were applied
