What is ISO 21470 about?

ISO 21470 is an International Standard that discusses the estimation of specific nutritional content in infant formula and adult nutritionals. The robust analytical methods recommended by ISO 21470 can help you maintain nutritional authenticity.

ISO 21470 specifies a method for the simultaneous quantitative determination of four water-soluble vitamins in infant formula and related nutritional products, including relevant forms of vitaminsB1, B2, B3, and B6 by enzymatic digestion and UHPLC-MS/MS.

ISO 21470 is not intended to be used on products where vitamins have not been added.

Who is ISO 21470 for?

ISO 21470 on infant formula and adult nutritionals is relevant to the following:

  • Manufacturers of infant formula and adult nutritionals
  • Nutrition testing and certification bodies
  • Food technologists
  • Regulatory bodies

Why should you use ISO 21470?

Infant formulas are foods designed to feed babies and infants less than 12 months of age while adult nutrition refers to products used as supplement for improved health.

ISO 21470 focuses on the presence of vitamins in infant formula and adult nutritionals, and the detailed assessment of how enzymatic digestion of these can be best assimilated and absorbed by the consumer.

In this regard, compliance with the LC/MSMS method can aid in minimising risk of adulteration and consistently maintain nutritional value as per the specific need of the products.

As a result, standardised methods to assess the nutritional value in compliance with ISO 2140, helps foster reliability and trust for your products, by keeping in mind the health requirements of your consumers, while also meeting food safety and regulatory norms.

ISO 21470 can also prove to be beneficial for the food-related analysis for product development purposes.
