What is BS EN 14772 about?
BS EN 14772 specifies the quality assurance procedures that are applicable to ensure that delivered gaskets comply with the relevant product standards. BS EN 14772 sets down procedures by which a user can have confidence that the salient features of each batch of gaskets or gasket materials delivered to them will be constant.
The gasket types covered by BS EN 14772 are those that are within the scope of the EN 1514 series and EN 12560 series and are simultaneously within the scope of the EN 1591 series. An exception is those gaskets intended solely for domestic fluids (like water, wastewater) which are based on rubber with or without reinforcement like fillers and/or inserts.
Who is BS EN 14772 for?
BS EN 14772 on quality assurance inspection and testing of gaskets is relevant to:
- Gasket manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality assurance and inspection departments
- Industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, petrochemical, amongst others
Why should you use BS EN 14772?
Gaskets are mechanical static seals that fills the space between two objects, used in dynamic and active environments. BS EN 14772 provides a set of quality assurance procedures that applies to a wide range of gasket types encompassing most types of industrial applications.
BS EN 14772 consists of three main sections:
- The first section deals with the quality assurance inspection and testing of gaskets to the requirements of the relevant standard in the EN 1514 series and EN 12560 series
- The second section indicates the quality assurance testing or inspection that is appropriate for the separate materials which are combined without any mixing or processing other than slitting, cutting to shape or machining, to form the composite gaskets of the EN 1514 series and EN 12560 series
- The third section indicates what simple functional testing can be carried out on each of the gasket types
BS EN 14772 also recommends test procedures for thickness determination, ash content/ignition loss, compression and recovery, chloride content, sulphur content, comparative graphite oxidation determination test.
This information provided by BS EN 14772 helps the user improve the quality of the gasket, that can prevent leakages and contamination. Moreover, you will be able to make the right choice for gasket materials as per their characteristics and environment of application, thus ensuring quality consistency in product offering to your customers.
