What is BS EN 17423 about?

BS EN 17423 discusses the energy performance of buildings. BS EN 17423 is an international standard for efficiently determining the energy performance of buildings using primary energy factors.

BS EN 17423 specifies a transparent framework for reporting about the procedure to determine primary energy factors (PEFs) and CO2 emission coefficients for energy delivered to and exported from the buildings.

BS EN 17423 specifies choices to be made with respect to the calculation of PEF(s) and CO2 emission coefficients.

Note1: BS EN 17423 is intended to be used for supporting and complementing EN ISO 52000-1 as it requires values for EPB calculation.

Note2: Under BS EN 17423 the CO2 emission coefficients allow calculating greenhouse gas emissions. So according to the choices made it will represent only CO2 emissions or any other greenhouse gases.

Note 3: BS EN 17423 applies for different time intervals (annual, monthly, hourly).

Who is BS EN 17423 for?

BS EN 17423 on energy performance of buildings is relevant to:

  • Construction companies
  • Real-estate industry
  • Regulatory bodies
  • National standardization experts

Why should you use BS EN 17423?

The assessment of the energy performance of buildings with respect to primary energy factors (PEFs) and CO2 emission coefficients is necessary for building healthy environmental practices.

BS EN 17423 is a part of a series of standards that aims at international harmonization of the methodology for the assessment of the energy performance of buildings.

BS EN 17423 provides PEFs and CO2 emission coefficients that is used by authorities and standardization experts for assessing the performance of the building.

BS EN 17423 provides contextual knowledge and practical use to determine and report primary energy factors (PEF) and CO2 emission coefficients in buildings.
