What is BS EN IEC 61800‑1 about?
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 applies to adjustable speed electric DC power drive systems, which include semiconductor power conversion and the means for their control, protection, monitoring, measurement and the DC motors.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 applies to adjustable speed electric power drive systems intended to feed DC motors from a BDM/CDM connected to line-to-line voltages up to and including 1 kV AC 50 Hz or 60 Hz and/or voltages up to and including 1.5 kV DC input side.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 defines the aspects of a DC power drive system (PDS) such as principal parts of PDS, ratings and performance, specifications for the environment in which the PDS is intended to be installed and operated.
Note 1: Traction applications and electric vehicles are excluded from BS EN IEC 61800‑1.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 61800‑1 provides minimum requirements, which may be used for the development of a specification between customer and manufacture
Who is BS EN IEC 61800‑1 for?
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 on adjustable speed electric DC power drive systems is beneficial for:
- Manufactures of electrical power drive systems and its components
- Suppliers and dealers of electrical power drive systems and its components
- Electrical power system engineers
- Service providers and installers for electrical systems and components
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61800‑1?
The system which is used for controlling the torque, speed and direction of an electrical motor is defined as An Electrical drive system.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 specifies the requirements for your adjustable speed electrical power drive systems (PDSs), that are intended to feed DC motors and with rated converter input voltages including 1000 v AC.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 specifies you in a specific environment with conditions, in which the product can be operated, transported or stored in a specific condition included in it. This enables you to ensure protection against thermal and electric hazards in PDS during the act of installing.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 is intended to be used to create a comprehensive list of requirements to be used as a specification between customer and manufacturer.
BS EN IEC 61800‑1 may be useful as a specification tool, when BDM/CDM/PDSs are built into a final installation or application applied as a component. The following applications are considered relevant: lift and hoist, machinery, conveyor, industrial switchgears applications, heating and ventilation, pump, excitation systems, tidal and marine applications.
As a user of BS EN IEC 61800‑1, you will be able to establish safe and reliable electric DC power drive systems with adjustable speed, in commercial or industrial facilities of varied sizes.
